The number of travelers through Vagar Airport in the Faroe Islands continues to grow by two-digit numbers. In May, 32,594 travelers flew through the Vagar terminal. This is a growth of 25.2% compared with May 2016.
This means that after a bad start in 2017, with passenger decline in February and March, total growth now is 10.1%. This means that so far this year, 112,613 travelers have used the airport or more than 10,000 more than the same time in 2016.
“No doubt that more tourists are coming to the Faroe Islands at the moment, and they bear the bulk of growth. But the strong Faroese industry means more business travelers and increased demand for air travel on the Faroese market, ” Jákup Sverri Kass, director of Vagar Airport says..
The big growth demands the airport and the new terminal, which was completed in June 2014. The airport is already expanding the parking lot from 300 parking lots to over 800 parking spaces. Also in the terminal itself has planned extensions and renovations.
“The growth in recent years means that we have already begun extensions and restructuring. Initially, the plan is to double the luggage hall and to double our check-in disks. In addition, we will take a line more through security and we will make some changes in our Duty Free store, “says Jákup Sverri Kass, CEO.
