A new European airline that was set up in just four months has completed its first passenger flight.
Estonian carrier, Marabu Airlines, travelled from Munich Airport (MUC) to Palma de Mallorca Airport on Saturday, April 15, 2023, as it looks to build a network which will eventually include flights to northern Africa.
In December 2022, investment firm Attestor, which owns 51% of German leisure airline Condor, announced plans to launch its own holiday airline in Estonia.
Existing Estonian flag-carrier, Nordic Aviation Group, is providing ACMI (leasing of aircraft leasing, crew, maintenance and insurance) services to the new carrier, using three Airbus A320neo aircraft.
On April 6, Xfly a flight capacity provider owned by Nordic, posted on social media to celebrate Marabu Airlines receiving its Air Operator Certificate (AOC) and Operating License at “record breaking speeds”.
In total Marabu Airlines plans to fly with six A320neos, based at Hamburg and Munich.
“We are extremely grateful to the Estonian authorities for great cooperation that allowed us to establish and set up Marabu in four months.” Paul Schwaiger, the CEO of Marabu said.
According to the carrier’s new website Marabu Airlines will fly from Hamburg and Munich to the “most beautiful beaches around the Med, Egypt, the Canary Islands, Portugal and Spain.”
Tickets are currently being processed through Condor.
The first flight to Tallinn from Munich is scheduled for May 21, 2023 and the first flight from Tallinn to Hamburg will take off on June 16.
