More joyful to be a traveler in these cabins

In 2016 SAS will offer 6,600 flights between US and Scandinavia, whereof 190,000 seats are offered between Miami and Copenhagen and Oslo, says Trine Kromann-Mikkelsen, Head of Communications, SAS, Denmark.

“Miami and Boston were highest on the list and we’re happy to offer them next year to our customers.  In total SAS will offer 1.75 mio seats to and from US next year which is a pretty strong devotion to this particular market. We currently have full time work for all our aircraft so we can’t speculate in new routes.

But if we had more capacity we would most probably focus on the destinations we already serve.”

Trine Kromann-Mikkelsen, Head of communications, SAS Denmark, is tensioned before a Miami event in Copenhagen where SAS will present one of the Airbus 330-300 aircraft redesigned with completely new and ultra modern cabins to be used on the routes Oslo – Miami and Copenhagen – Miami next year.

It is a bit unorthodox – at least for SAS – with a media event to tell about and show an aircraft and get outside inspiration, which happens on Wednesday. At the event Kristian Leth, well-traveled poet, musician and cultural person, will hold an inspirational lecture about Miami.

Why Miami?

“Miami is the second largest destination in North America to/from Scandinavia. Why? It offers tropical climate and gorgeous beaches and is an attractive destination for travelers from Scandinavia and Northern Europe with high season in the winter and the summer holiday period. The city also has the largest cruise port in the world and at the same time Miami is a commercial center that attracts businesses from all over the world,” says Trine Kromann-Mikkelsen to TTO Scandinavia.

SAS have got completely new cabins. What is the main difference between the new and old cabins?

“The most simple answers which cover the general experience must be that it is simply more joyful to be a traveler in these cabins. Also the entertainment system – which is the same on all three classes, is a huge upgrade with touch screen and a large program to choose from. In details it differs a bit from the different classes. On Business the major difference is the flat beds and the single seat config (at a window seat you don’t have someone else sitting next to you). The Plus cabin is extremely comfortable with wider seats and longer pitch. The same for Go.”

What was the cost to build an A330 with new cabins?

“We do not disclose this price.”

How have the new cabins been received by customers?

“Exceptionally well. We get very good feedback from our customers in all three classes, Go, Plus and particularly Business scores high.”

How old are the aircraft to be used on the Miami route?

“We will be using upgraded aircraft. Too early to say if we are using the new enhanced or only upgraded A330,” says Trine Kromann-Mikkelsen.
