Russia is this year introducing e-visa to three regions. From 01.06.2019 it became possible to visit Vladivostok and Vladivostok region in the Far East with e-visa. The e-visa to Vladivostok is possible to obtain for 18 nationalities, mainly Asian and Middle East nationalities. From 01.07.2019 it has been possible to visit Kaliningrad and Kaliningrad region at the Baltic Sea with e-visa for 53 nationalities, including most European nationalities.
And this week it was announced that from 01.10.2019 it will be possible to visit St. Petersburg and Leningrad region with e-visa. The list of nationalities, which can apply for e-visa to St. Petersburg will first be published towards 01.10.2019. It is generally expected, but not confirmed, that e-visa to St. Petersburg will apply for most European nationalities as it does for Kaliningrad.
Applicants need to fill out a form on the website of the Consular Department of the Russian Foreign Ministry and upload a photograph. The application does not require any official invitation and can be made no later than four and no earlier than twenty days before the expected date of entry and – very important – there is no consular fee!
The e-visa is valid for 30 calendar days and for stays in the regions for up to eight calendar days. The purpose of travel can be tourism, business or humanitarian reasons. No later than four days from the date of the submission of the application, a notification of issuing an e-visa will be placed on the web-site. The applicant will receive a notification with an identification number, which must be presented at the border crossing point together with personal ID. Please also note that foreign guests to Russia must carry medical insurance as well as travel documents confirming the departure from Russia. Guests must leave from the same region as they enter. Multiple entrance and exit borders point can be used.
