The Canadian ultra-low-cost carrier Lynx Air has announced five new routes from Toronto and Hamilton, in a significant expansion out of the greater Toronto region, as it prepares to start flying on April 7, connecting Calgary and Vancouver. Lynx is launching these new flights from Ontario between June and July. Let’s investigate further.
Lynx’s new flights
Earlier this week, Lynx Air announced a major expansion out of Toronto and Hamilton, adding four new destinations and five new routes to its network. Lynx will operate these flights using its Boeing 737 MAX fleet with a capacity of up to 189 passengers.
The airline, based in Calgary, will be launching flights out of both Toronto Pearson Airport (YYZ) and John Munro Hamilton International Airport (YHM) between June and July. Lynx Air, the latest startup in Canadian aviation, will begin flying on April 7.
These are Lynx’s new routes:
- Toronto Pearson-Halifax: three flights per week, commencing on June 30, 2022. One month later, Lynx will increase to five weekly frequencies
- Toronto Pearson-St. John’s: two flights per week, starting on June 28, 2022. By July 28, the route will have a daily flight.
- Toronto Pearson-Edmonton: Seven flights per week, commencing July 28, 2022.
- Hamilton-Calgary: Two flights per week since June 29, and 30 days later increasing to four weekly services.
- Hamilton-Halifax: two flights per week, starting June 29, 2022.
Lynx will also be increasing its frequencies between Toronto and Calgary from seven flights per week to twelve from June 28, 2022.
Lynx’s expansion
When talking about the new routes, Merren McArthur, CEO of Lynx, said,
“We are excited to be announcing this major expansion of our network, providing Toronto residents with more choice and competition as they seek to reconnect with loved ones and to rediscover this beautiful country. By the end of July, we will be flying 92 flights per week in and out of the Toronto area, which is more than 17,000 seats per week.”
Lynx will operate with its fleet of Boeing’s newest B737 MAX aircraft. The airline has firm orders and leases agreements in place for a total of 46 aircraft over the next seven years. Lynx expects to receive the first three Boeing 737s in early 2022.
“Boeing’s newest 737 aircraft enables the lowest cost operation of any aircraft in its market segment, making it a great fit for Lynx Air’s ultra-low-cost business model,” said Brad McMullen, Senior Vice President of Sales North America for Boeing Commercial Airplanes.
