With a new direct service by Condor Airlines from Frankfurt to Kuala Lumpur, as well as looking forward to becoming Partner Country of ITB 2019 and ‘Visit Malaysia Year 2020’ – Malaysia has redefined its position in the travel sector and is working to implement its ‘Malaysia Tourism Transformation Plan 2020’.
One of the declared aims of Tourism Minister Dato Seri Mohamed Nazri Abdul Aziz is to make Malaysia more accessible. The first milestone has already been reached: starting on 5 November 2018 Condor Airlines will be offering direct flights from Germany to Malaysia. Speaking at ITB Berlin, Condor Manager Dr. Jens Boyd expressed his confidence: “This new route fills a gap that offers a great potential.”
In addition, the southeast Asian country will be the official partner country of ITB Berlin 2019. “With this we intend to boost tourism and establish Malaysia as a vacation destination”, explained Dato´Sri Abdul Khani Daud from Tourism Malaysia at ITB Berlin. The worldwide tourism campaign ‘Visit Malaysia Year 2020’ is also aimed at establishing Malaysia on the holiday market, and a number of events distributed throughout the year will create a greater awareness of the country as a destination. Tourism specialists have set themselves an ambitious target: to boost visitor numbers to 36 million by 2020.
