Singapore Airlines and sister airline SilkAir will start charging for advance seat selection for some of its cheaper airfares.
In comes after announcing a revamp of its Economy Class fare structure which takes effect from now.
Economy Class will have three new fare types – Lite, Standard and Flexi.
An advance seat selection charge is applicable for the cheaper Lite category, and starts at $5 per flight segment depending on the destination.
SIA says families with children under 12 on the same booking will be exempt.
Business Class will also have its own Lite, Standard and Flexi fare categories although there will be no charge imposed for advance seat selection.
The airlines also made changes to its baggage policy, with additional bag allowance offered for Flexi ticket holders.
