In two short years the Centara World Masters Golf Championship in Hua Hin, Thailand has become the biggest tournament for club golfers in Asia. The inaugural tournament attracted 400 golfers and the latest instalment in June 2015 attracted a sold-out field of 600 golfers from 23 countries. No other amateur golf tournament attracts golfers from more countries.
The Centara World Masters Golf Championship is a week-long celebration of golf, social and entertainment events in the popular seaside resort town of Hua Hin. The event is open to all male and female golfers over the age of 35. Competition is played in 15 divisions based on age and handicap; drawing golfers of a similar age and handicap together is among the event’s great traditions.
Hua Hin also has an abundance of ideally located accommodations from luxury to more budget options. Host hotel for the tournament is the Centara Grand Beach Resort & Villas Hua Hin. Established in the early 1920’s, the resort has modern luxuries while retaining its bygone age of elegance. Taking full advantage of Centara’s beachfront location, the opening night welcome dinner and gala presentation dinner are hosted around one of the resort’s pools with the beach and ocean as a stunning backdrop.
Hua Hin, about 2.5 hours south of Bangkok, was awarded Asia’s Best Golf Destination in 2014 and serves up a winning combination for tournament participants. Golfers play Black Mountain, Banyan, Springfield and Majestic Creek – all quality resort course layouts where carts and caddies are standard. Black Mountain is ranked the number one course in Asia and hosts the annual “Best Championship Course in Asia Pacific”. Banyan was voted “The Best Golf Club Experience in Asia Pacific.” Thailand is known as the ‘land of smiles’ and the well-trained and friendly caddies enhance this reputation.

Golfers gather each night during the tournament at the 19th Hole for festivities where tempting Thai cuisine and Chang beer flows and when golf winners are celebrated.
The tournament also boasts US$30,000 in golf prizes and lucky prize draws for luxury golfing holidays, including an all-expense paid trip to return to the Centara World Masters.
The tournament package is packed with value and special touches like a caddy bib, and personalised with the players’ name and country flag. This event has all the trappings and services usually reserved for touring professionals. Centara World Masters participants have been in high praise of the event experience and value.
“There is great energy that surrounds this tournament,” said Mr. Thirayuth Chirathivat. “With such a diverse group of players, it really showcases how universal the game of golf is. We are looking forward to welcoming all of the players for this third year at Centara Grand Hua Hin. Best of luck to all.”
The tournament is co-hosted by Australian-based Go Golfing and Golfasian who look after more golfers in Thailand than any other tour operator. The seamless co-ordination of flights, accommodation, transfers and event logistics for 600 plus golfers is among the event’s notable achievements. In addition to Centara Hotels & Resorts, reputable companies including TaylorMade, Coca-Cola, Tourism Authority of Thailand and ThaiBev supplying Chang beers are proudly contributing to the future success of the tournament.
The third annual Centara World Masters Golf Championship returns to Hua Hin, Thailand, from 12 to 18 June 2016.
