British Airways cabin crew announced to stage a 48-hour strike after rejecting an offer aimed at resolving a pay dispute involving some 4500 employees. Members of Unite, about 2500 of them, are to lay down work on 10 and 11 January. BA said it will still be able to ensure all customers get to their destinations. Once their contingency plans have been finalised on Friday, British Airways will publish more details for customers, reads an official statement regarding the strikes.

British Airways also said the group of workers involved in the dispute represented 15% of cabin crew. Previously, crew members had called off a strike planned for Christmas Day and Boxing Day. The ongoing dispute between crew and airline revolves around so-called “mixed fleet” cabin crew members who joined BA in recent years. Unite has described pay rates for some staff as “indefensible”.
