Air New Zealand plans to roll out yet another seating category.
It hopes to ease the strain with extra space for economy passengers.
Called Economy Stretch, it will offer the same seat as regular economy but with an expanded 35-inch seat pitch.
That compares with 31 inches for standard economy seat pitch on Air NZ’s widebody planes.
Premium Economy seats have a 41-inch pitch.
As well as a little extra legroom, Economy Stretch will offer a pillow and a premium headset, food and wine, and free Wi-Fi on enabled aircraft.
Air NZ has started retrofitting its Boeing long-haul fleet with the new Economy Stretch seat configuration.
“We know one size doesn’t fit all and we want customers to have a fantastic experience, whatever the cabin. Economy customers told us they want more space and comfort and we’re looking forward to giving customers a new option,” said the airline’s Cam Wallace.
“Economy Stretch is a step-up at a competitive price, and we’re confident it will appeal.”
The new seating category will be available to book from early 2020.
