“We have launched a number of new routes. We have already introduced flights from Delhi to San Francisco and Vienna. Next year we plan to open five to six new routes to, among other Washington, Scandinavia and Africa. We headed for growth, “confirms CEO Ashwini Lohani.
Air India flies to about 40 international destinations in the US, Europe, Australia and Asia. Most recently, the company in April opened a route to Vienna, and in December comes Madrid also on the route map with a new route from Delhi to the Spanish capital.
Whether the route from Dehli will be to STO or CPH is not clear yet.
Both airports are fighting about it as a destination even though CPH seems to have been delt the best hand of cards as the largest Start Alliance hub as Air India became a member of Star Alliance in 2014. Politically Sweden is the strongest player as the relations beween Denmark and India have not been the hottest in the last years due to a spy case.
Delhi is one of the largest unserved intercontinental destinations from Copenhagen airport with 30,658 indirect passengers in 2015. This potential will be a good starting point for three weekly flights.
