Air Iceland will carry the torch to make tourism bigger outside the capital region.
Guðmundur Óskarsson, director marketing & sales:
“We are the experts in air travel for the region in and around Iceland. Connecting north, east and west Iceland and too five gateways in Greenland from our hubs in Iceland. Our aim is to inspire our passengers to travel further in the region and see news and exciting things.”
Air Iceland starts later in February the first domestic flight from Keflavik International Airport (not Reykjavik) and Akureyri (AEY), so that international visitors, brought in by Icelandair from Europe and North America, can transfer directly to the flight and do not have to change airports in Iceland.
Flights will be operating all year round, up to six times a week during the winter season and three times a week during the summer. To begin with these flights are only intended for those tourists, who are either coming off or going on at international flight through Keflavik.
“We are doing six flights a week, because the demand for the product is higher in the winter. Tourists stay for a shorter time, which means they have less time to travel around Iceland. Transportation is much easier with flight rather than other options. There is also more availability of accommodation in the north during winter than summer.”
Air Iceland will have a new route from June1st.
This will go to Belfast and is the second one, which falls into the Icelandair Route Network. The first is Aberdeen that started last year.
