Phuket closes all hotels

As confirmed cases of coronavirus reach 100 on the island of Phuket, governor Pakkapong Taweepat has ordered all hotels to close.

All hotels on the Thai island have been ordered not to accept any new guests, and then close when all current guests have checked out.

Hotels without any guests are required to close immediately.

It applies to all types of lodging except those being used for people under medical monitoring or as makeshift medical facilities.

Any violation of the Emergency Decree could result in heavy fines or a prison sentence.

All guests will be screened and any suspected Covid-19 infections will be placed in quarantine.

A curfew has been imposed nationwide with orders to stay indoors from 10pm to 4am and will be strictly enforced, said Army chief Lt Gen Pornsak Poonsawat.
