Two Thai men have been charged with negligence after an Australian tourist plunged to his death parasailing. Roger Hussey, 71, fell to his death from about 100 feet into shallow water at Kata beach in Phuket. “Boat owner Montien Jandaeng, 45, and parachute attendant Rungroj Rakcheep, 38, are charged with negligence resulting in the death of another person,” Lieutenant Suwisit Keereerak, from Karon police, told AFP. “The equipment was not up to standard and the parachute attendant failed to tell his victim to hold the ropes in the correct position.” Local media said Hussey may have mistakenly pulled on a hook that released the harness. Hussey’s Thai wife was filming at the time and later posted the footage online. Water sports accidents in Phuket are common with safety regulations rarely enforced. Australian woman Emily Jayne Collie died in a jetski accident earlier this year on the same beach.
